Lisa 64 bit runs great after install and updates, then freezes after restart.
Dual boot on Acer Aspire One-722. I succeeded in moving the Win 7 OS to the first 1/2 of the 500GB drive and then booted off the Mint 12 CD. I set up 4 partitions for linux much like I did for my old desktop, 500MB /boot, primary. swap 5 GB. /, 8 GB (logical) and /home, 230 GB. After install was done I did updates and every thing was quit snappy and I was very pleased. However after I shut down and re-booted to Lisa later the systems hangs up right at the log in. Mouse and keyboard are dead, must hold power button to shut down. I tried this install twice with same result.
I just deleted the partition set up and have started over letting the install create the partitions for the Linux OS and will see if that works . . . System re-started ok when I let the Install set up the HD partition. What was wrong with the way I did it? |
Who knows - you've wiped out the evidence!
Does Windows still boot? Did you tell Mint to boot from the MBR? |
I have not had any problems with windows 7 boot or system . . . yet. This morning I have had the Lisa OS freeze up twice with the latest install. It is getting past boot up now. I may try another version of Mint if I continue to have problems with Lisa 64 bit.

Forget the boot partition. Just /root & /home are sufficient.
Make sure you tell the installer to install in "hd0". Grub will add windows loader. If you don't want it there put it in /root then boot to windows & install EasyBCD, a free (donate if you like it) utility which will set up you dual boot with a few clicks. Also, why did you move your win partition? The installer will offer to install "alongside" your other installation & do the partitioning automatically. No need to do anything else. |

Turns out that the problem was with the ATI Radeon HD 6250 Graphics chipset on my system. Your Aspire One-722 has the same chipset. See http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopi...=89857#p518436 for problem resolution. Update: My Acer Aspire 5250-BZ873 has more issues with Mint Linux 12. The video chip problem hasn't been resolved and now the system will hang, or not, depending on whether or not its hardwired to my router. Update: I've successfully installed a fulling working version of Debian Squeeze on my Aspire. The video and lockup problems no longer exist. Regards, |
