with a systems panel on the left and generally
mission or apps on the right

about the only thing that microsuck ever did
right was the color research, greens in the
tree-leaf range maybe a touch bluish if that
ios close r to ambiant are the easiest on the
eyes

...done. I just linked the first one that google coughed up, and I don't believe in link virtualization.

There was no question, I was however confusing my post with another one in which I listed evident shortfalls of the kde panel configurabiltiy which admittedly is still in the lead :)

Enlightenment lets you create multiple panels.

Good to know, I'm interested in DE's that let me configure like the linked one or even better. Looking for a desktop to launch according to the day of the week, I actually tried enlightenment but only for a few very inconclusive minutes. Sofar I'm tinkering with xfce, lxqt, kde, and mate with room for three more :)

@OP: take a look at xfce4-panel, I think it's pretty configurable

What shortcomings are you running into with KDE's panels? I know I can create another if I want (but don't because I'd rather devote display real estate to applications instead of panels and, frankly, have only created extra panels by accident). If you go with KDE's activities (instead of virtual desktops) you can tweak your "Favorites" in, say, a "System" activity to contain the major system-related applications you might need to run, Text editors and word processors can be favorites in an Editing activity, etc. I create a launcher for the panel for the applications I tend to run in any/all activities (xterm, xman, etc.). I was initially drawn to Activities as it was possible to assign different wallpapers to each activity but have grown to really appreciate being able to customize the Favorites application menu items. This doesn't give you the dual panel desktop you might be looking for but it might be something to try out.

Not me, my monitor is a 2D animal and until we have holograms with jumping little gladiators in the middle of the living room I will also remain strictly 2D. Not only that, but classical cascading menus are the only approach for me and so called paging is another flash in the pan that I just let pass by. I covered a few isues related to the linked desktp in anothr thread and don't wanna do what I've done a few times before i.e. end up discussing the same ones in half a dozen different threads :)
