Change
#GRUB_TERMINAL=console
To
GRUB_TERMINAL=console
Run update-grub

Another possibility is during the boot delay, type blindly :
c
fwsetup

Update: I cracked it open and looked for a means to reset BIOS. I didn't see a separate CMOS battery, nor any button or jumpers, so I unplugged the battery for about 5 minutes.

That did the trick. I restarted an was immediately greeted by a backlit screen, followed by the BIOS splash screen. I went in, reset the system clock and all was good.

For the record, this was the change I'd made that caused all of the trouble:

Code:
Chipset
  - South Bridge
    - OS Selection
      - Windows
      - Android
      - Win7
      - Intel Linux
      - MSDOS
The "OS Selection" option was set to Windows. I had changed it to Intel Linux on a whim (it was late). I'll need to research how and why that made a difference, but the bottom line is, it's been fixed. Thanks to all who provided advice.

This is an Aptio firmware from AMI.

Now about those audio issues...
