Mandriva 2011 PowerPack on lenovo ThinkPad E530

Hi,
I am trying to install Mandriva PowerPack 2011 on Lenovo ThinkPad E530 i7, it has windows 7 installed on it.

I successfully downloaded and wrote the iso on a DVD, but when I try to install it , the partition stage fails, I have a lenovo backup of 17GB disk, a 446GB hard disk, from which only 42 is used by windows, I already ran "chkdsk c: /f /r" successfully.

any ideas are appreciated ...

Thanks,

You are not describing your problem clearly.
What is the error? What appeared? If possible, please give me the output of "dmesg"...

Also, next time, don't get people to ask you to help you.

Hi,
Here is the error I receive...

You either need to delete unused files or see the -i option.
this message appears after choosing the : use the free space on a Microsoft windows partition. option.
and yes i choose the correct device to partition.

shall try the 2012 version of mandriva ..?

Thanks

You can either try the 2012 version or delete all partitions including the MBR in the HDD and try again.

mandrivaFan 09-16-2012 02:15 AM

Hi,
What do you mean by delete all partitions, I don't want to delete the windows?
What is MBR,HDD??

can you be more informative !

Thanks,

Oh... uh... Then, I think you should probably tell Mandriva Team about this and wait for the 2012 version.

What do you think about it ?

can you be more informative ?...please!

Sorry, I can't try. I am on a plain CLI and it would be a problem running a virtual machine here.

suttiwit 09-16-2012 09:32 AM

Anyway, The point of telling Mandriva Team about this, so that they can either:
1. Help you with the problem on 2011 if it is not a bug.
or...
2. Fix the bug in 2012.

Hi,
I figured out what was the problem...
in the hard disk there were a small partition of 18 GiB of backup created by lenovo, when I was trying to partition the hard disk ,it was trying to partition this part...
so i choose custom partition and deleted it , as a result the 18 GiB where merged with the rest of the Hard Disk, after that I choose the option of using the free space of windows partition and every thing went smooth .

BUT ...
I am now facing new problems, the sound under KDE is damaged, when I use sakis3g to connect to the internet it connects but there is no internet ... also I choose to install Gnome but the starting screen does not show any option of starting any environment ,it starts KDE automatically, what shall I do ??
I have another question, how can I change the theme of emacs ?

suttiwit 09-17-2012 07:02 AM

Aww..... Now, i can't help you. Sorry. You should try other distributions or change the topic related to your issue. And, wait for someone to help.
