LinuxQuestions.org - Install Linux using NFS from a Windows machine?

Hey-

I was already to install linux on this sony laptop that my friend gave me (pcg-505fx), when I realized that there was no pcmcia card for the external cd-drive. I've done some reading, and figured out that I think I can install using NFS(I don't know what it is). Unfortunately all of the guides involve going from a linux NFS server- I have to do it from an XP machine. BTW, this would/will be my first interaction with linux (not counting a live cd I played with the other day).

The basic steps that every guide offers are: 1) Mount ISO. 2) Make bootable floppy. 3) Use NFS to put linux on client. Or something similar.

The problem is, I have no idea what they are talking about. How do I mount an ISO or whatever (I know what an ISO is I think- disc image)? Is that different than simply having a disc image? If I burned the ISO to a disc, then copied the files would that do it?

How do I make a bootable floppy that will work for my distro? I was thinking of using vector linux as it seems to be geared towards older pcs like this sony. Also, does the network connection card/USB effect what I need for the floppy?

How do I NFS from windows XP to client(currently win98, hopefully soon to be wiped clean and just linux)?

Thanks for any help you can offer. I really have tried to solve this myself with a lot of googling, but most guides discuss NFS's from Linux. And they ALL seem to assume I know what is/how to mount.
