snapshot what is a good snapshot app or whatever it takes

I have an issue with arcoLinux, Geany, it has this one option to switch dir in its terminal if that option is selected.

On a fresh install of this distro, and two other knockoff ArchLinux distos I get this same thing. after I update the system this stops working. the command gets screwed up somehow to issue is backwards.
Code:

pathcd
and no longer
cd path

I cannot pin down what is doing this. geany does not get updated, someone said it is in vte that this is taken care of. the changing the dir, but until I find out for certain, I want a easy backup system so I can update it, then when it screws up I can restore it to the state before the upgrade go through what was updated and try holding back packages that may have caused this. upgrade again to see if I found it.

it looks like the snapshot is for btrf and i use ext4 ..

I do not know, or cannot think of another easier way, so Until I get something that is a easy backup and restore I am not upgrading this install.

Timeshift - it's in AUR on a normal Arch install.

Oh WoW
Code:

yay -Ss timeshift

aur/timeshift-autosnap 0.7-1 (+3 1.30%)
Timeshift auto-snapshot script which runs before package upgrade using Pacman hook.
aur/timeshift 19.01-3 (+67 4.09%) (Installed: 19.01-2)
A system restore utility for Linux

would it be better to uninstall the one that is installed and install timeshift-autosnap or can they both be installed at same time?
