Samsung SCD103 Video Out on IEEE1394

I'm having trouble getting the video output of my Samsung SCD-103 digital camcorder into a "normal" form. When I grab the image from the camcorder, using dvgrab (1.6), the image appears white-washed to the point that you can't tell what's in the picture. The only way I've been able to get the image to appear as it should is to view it under kino (0.7.5) by using the GDK display method. I'm new to video editing/converting, and don't know what GDK is. However, I have looked for a way to convert the video file so that other video players, like mplayer, will show the video properly. I'm running SuSE 9.1.

Has anyone had luck with this camera? My goal is to convert the video into a "normalized" format and make an SVCD.

Thanks in advance,
Matt
