HP firmware force downgrade of SA-6404 Raid controller

Is there anyone who knows how I do FORCE a downgrade of my SA-6404 raid controller in my DL380 G3?

My Smart Array 542 controller has got BIOS version 2.76 and the SA-6404 controller I added in my DL380 runs on BIOS version 2.84. During POST the SA-6404 controller complains that it's disabled until both run on the same BIOS versions.

The problem is that I can't upgrade the SA-542 to 2.84 because I don't think that version exists and I can't downgrade the SA6404 to 2.76 because I can't select to force a downgrade (although the 2.74 version of the firmware is present on the firmware cd:scratch: Still error message

Code:

1762-Slot X Drive Array - Controller Firmware Upgrade Needed
So I tried to do it via command line and inputted the command:

Code:

hpsum.sh $logfile /force -c cp0099533.scexe -g -f:rom
Then it starts up the same dialog screen and yet again it doesn't downgrade ... ? It only gives me the option to rewrite the 2.84 version.

Meanwhile I tried almost every available firmware CD off the HP website (7.91, 8.10, 8.30, 8.40, 8.60 and 8.70)

No use... . I still can't downgrade to 2.76

[UPDATE]
Meanwhile I downloaded the 7.90 firmware CD which only has the 2.76 firmware version of the SA-6404. So I rewrote that and still the same message. I rebooted and rewrote teh SA-6404 and the internal SA-532 controller. Now that version is 2.66 (and no yet still not working)

Still the same error message during POST:

Code:

1762-Slot X Drive Array - and then something like needs to be same bios version as other card

You should probably contact HP support, but the SA-532 is rather ancient you'll probably just be told that yours is not a "supported configuration".

You could try flashrom on the SA-6404. Just make sure to back up the ROM image first, and I would not recommend proceeding if flashrom gives any kind of warning message. It could very well brick your controller.

I was browsing, looking for a solution to an issue that is totally unrelated to the problem above, but felt that I needed to comment because it reminded me of why Linux and other free software is so important to me.

It brings like minded people together from all over the planet to help each other and to learn from each other. I have rarely seen abuse and swearing on Linux forums, like you see on Microsoft-related ones. There is no minimum knowledge requirement to seek help; and language, geographical location, gender, age, religion, what-have-you, are no issue. In fact the term "Newbie" is almost a badge of honour on Linux forums.

Thanks to everybody for allowing me to be part of this fantastic movement.

I will let you get on with solving bucovaina78's problem!

Love That Tux!
