How would I install a Lucent WinModem in Linux
I have a WinModem (I think thats the term) and its made by Lucent Technologies. Its a v.90 56k, and from what I've read Linux doesnt normally support these modems. Is there any way to setup a driver to use this?

I've not gotten around to doing this myself, but all the information you need is at http://www.linmodems.org/.

Ok, I went to http://www.sfu.ca/~cth/ltmodem/dists/redhat/8.26a9/ to d/l the binary fit for my modem. I went on terminal and typed "uname -r" and it gave me the following numbers "2.4.20-20.9". So I scroll down and d/l
ltmodem-kv_2.4.20_20.9-8.26a9-1.i686.rpm I think that fits because it has the same numbers in it. But where did the 8.26a9 come from? Im also guessing i686 is your processor? If so, a Celleron Processor is at least a 686 am I correct? The thing is, when I installed the package, and then went to Network Device Control, after logging into root. I would click configure and then +new Modem Connection... but Linux still wont recognize the modem. Any ideas? |
kv_2.4...... =kernel version
8.26a9.... = version no. of the driver... and ya i686 is processor type, if your not sure best to go with a i386.... and to get it going, make a link from /dev/ttyLT0 to /dev/modem if not already done and try with kppp...... |
