Audio cards not found - and unable to turn on

I have just installed Rocky Linux 9.1 on my Lenovo laptop. I am una ble to hear any sound and my sound card does not seem to be recognised by alsamixer.
Please see the trouble shooting below;

$ alsamixer

F6 no sound card only - default

$ lspci -v | grep -A7 -i "audio"

has the following output:

$ aplay -L

null
Discard all samples (playback) or generate zero samples (capture)

PipeWire Sound Server

Default ALSA Output (currently PipeWire Media Server)

Fwiw Rocky linux is considered a boring vanilla 'server linux os' like centos/rhel, and usually is not equipped with lots of laptop drivers or bleeding edge drivers in general.

I would suggest Ubuntu or perhaps an Arch based distro that has plenty of the newest packages, updates, drivers and support.

Wishing to use this distro - thx though -- any other replies?

Thank you, but I wish to continue to use this particular distro. Any other suggestions would be helpful.

Best regards
