Audigy 2 not playing sound in Zenwalk after alsaconf and alsamixer

I'm having a problem getting sound out of my Sound Blaster Audigy 2 soundcard. I ran alsaconf after booting into Xfce, but found that it was conflicting with my onboard chipset. I went into the BIOS, shut it off, rebooted Zenwalk, and ran alsaconf again; it only recognized the Audigy 2, and the configuration reported no problems. I then ran alsamixer and pushed all of the faders past 90.

Neither speaker-test nor GNOME MPlayer work. Not even a whisper.

Any suggestions?

have you tried un-muting the card, by pressing the 'M' key in 'alsamixer'? and toggle it a few times, as ive got a cheap creative audigy card, and for some inexplicable reason, 'M'=sound '00'=mute. try playing an mp3 in your media player while toggling.
