3080Ti / Samsung Odyssey G7 issue
Greetings.
Not much of a coder, or such. Been a gamer most my life, but i am trying to get my bearings in the world of Linux now. The issue i have, is that my screen tends to "turn off" or "lose signal" when ever i start up a new program, or app. But thing is, it also did this under Windows. I've only been doing Linux for about 6 months, so i'm fair dumb in most regards. My monitor is a Samsung Odyssey G7, using a 3080Ti. Which means, it's a hardware issue. Just having moved, and setting it back up again, i noticed something. It doesn't do it, when i plug it in, via my HDMI cable. Though using that, i can only achieve 144hz. Where as, if i use the Display port cable, i can get the desired 240hz. The graphics card has 1 HDMI socket, and 3 Display ports... All 3 does the same thing. I've tried them all three... My friend and i are thinking, the 800W PSU might be... Underperforming, or not powerful enough? Is there any way to test this? My computer is an HP Omen (I forget the specific model). But i added another SSD harddrive, and doubled the RAM fro 16 to 32gigz. I bought the thing pre-owned. Was about a year old, and got a fairly good deal on it. Though, i'm wondering now, if i bought something broken? I really hope it's not the 3080Ti... Thoughts, ideas and help is most welcome. |
Oh, just noticed :
Model is HP Omen 25L, 8876 11. If that's any help... |

Thank you for the thoughts.
Well, if it isn't the PSU? What do you think could be causing this issue then ? Maybe my 3080Ti can't do 240 hz? |
Finally managed to scrounge up a post about this issue, from other people. It's related but not a 100% match.
Apparently, there's an issue with the Odyssey monitors, that apparently causes them to "black out" when overheating. Or so, some people report. Some have slightly different issues, where it also happens on the HDMI cable. Others lose picture on their Odyssey either in BIOS, or after a reboot. Some have mentioned a "fix" by pulling of the back cover on the monitor, and jerry rigging a fan only the PSU. Which wouldn't do a whole lot for me, as i have a separate PSU for it. But they all, agree that there's absolutely no help from Samsung themselves. Which surprised me greatly... It's such a wierd issue... |
