Upgrade Issues
All,
I was having so many issues with Apache, MySQl and PHPmyAdmin, that I finally realized the code, not sure which module was corrupted, so I was never going to FIX the problems staying in 18.04 LTS, so upgraded to 20.04, so will close all the issues on my attempts to fix LAMP Stack on 18.04 LTS! However in 20.04 almost all the native functions and packages are not included, even Dolphin. I can call Dolphin from the cmd line, but there is no way to add it to the desktop or taskbar. I always save the files I know pertain to config issues, so have a copy of the fstab file to attach my "3T" drive. Without Dolphin I cannot find and attach this drive so the over 500 packages still needing install vai the automate BASH files cannot be run. I've been trying to remember all this, but realizing my age is now a hindrance, as I'm struggling to remember things, so all help appreciated. Cheers! TBNK |
Did you upgrade or install from scratch? I assume you still are running Kubuntu. If you installed from scratch why didn't you install the latest LTS i.e. 22.04.4. 20.04 went EOL back in 2023-04-29.
What do you define as native functions? Usually dolphin is installed by default and already on the taskbar. If not once running right click on the icon on the taskbar and click "Pin To Task Manager" |
Company Directive

Our company directive is upgrade only to LTS and must have matured 2 years. Yes next next month will be 2 years for 22.04, but prohibited, right how! Oh since I have very limited iNet here, had to download and burn 20.04 Live DVD, burn and install! What the default problem is "Application Launcher" prohibits all jobs we use the server to do with over 25 apps pinned to the taqskbar and over 100 desktop custom application icons. I have another issue, that is a separate topic. Anyway found many "HOWTOs" on how to remove the Application Launcher, but when I look on my system, I find nothing they say exist there. Here is what I know about the current system: OS: lsb_release -a, KDE Plasma:5.18.8! If you need more info let me know! Cheers! TBNK |
M,
Oh I finally figured out how to launch Dolphin, but this Old Dog does not want to learn new tricdks, even though that is my job, but I just want to stick to my coding. He he! %TBNK |
Well, I really don't understand that "company directive," but maybe that is something that you should try to "gently, address." While it is reasonable to want to remain far back from "the bleeding edge," perhaps this "company directive" is really not the best one for the company to take.

I'm currently running 24.04 jammy jelly fish and this isn't by accident, I returned to the Ubuntu faily of Distributions after enduring several false starts and failures o with gcc-13.2.0 to compile on both Slackware and Debian as well as on Sailix which is a derivative distribution of SlackWare. I however had nom issues compiling gcc-13.2.0 after downloading and compiling gmp, mpfr and gdm i through this process i learned a huge deal about the processes involved in setting up a system for development and solving the messes and hell you get yourself into./
