my /var/log/syslog only logs the last 12 hours or so

Hi
My connection keeps disconnecting so I wanted to check my syslog file for diagnostics...but it seems that it only logged the last 6 hours after a restart following an electricity failure.
Another thing, is there a seperate log file for the pppoe connection >?

Thx

did you find files in /var/log named syslog.1 or syslog.2.gz ?

ALInux 02-10-2006 04:23 PM

Yeah....I did not check them though...those are archive files right >>??
Anyway ...I got the info I wanted.... I checked /var/log/messages and found the system alerts I was searching for. Thx for the help

logrotate will run every once in a while, each time it will move content from syslog into syslog.x and the others will be moved to syslog.x+1.gz
