installing redhat 8.0 when text login in I cannot type password?? I type root
OK I installed workstation, when it boots up I put root in the login and then when it goes to password I cannot type in password?? only enter works? any ideas on this? I am abovously doing something very wrong!!!:newbie:

When entering a password in linux you do not see any ***** for each character you enter. It will appear as though you are not typing in anything but you are. Just type in your password and hit enter. Have faith!

If you are saying (don't you love the different translations ;) FYI, I actually think he meant what you said Vince) that you cannot login directly as root, good. Some distros ( I setup Mandy PP this way) force you to login as a user first, then su - to root. This way you are conscientiously (spelling?) going to be root and ruin your system.

Nothing moves
When you type your password on any type of *nix(Unix,Linux etc.),
nothing will move.This is to hide the length of the passowrd and is a basic security measure. Hope this helped.:) |
