how to change font and/or font size in Terminal on EOS Odin
 

Hello --

Not sure where to put this post. But I wanted to ask, since I really want to get to know Linux better, how to change the font and/or type size in the terminal. Can anyone help me out, or point me to a link? i tried downloading and installing dconf editor from one page of instruction, but got an error message saying unable to locate package dconf-tools.

Wish there were an easier way, to do this, like in a preferences pane in OS X.

Is the terminal of which you ask a window running in X, or a fullscreen vtty session? Some X terminal emulators allow setting font size directly either from its menu or a context click, such as Konsole. Others require changes be made from a startup file, such as Xterm and .Xresources, while others obey your overall desktop settings made in a preference pane. If you write of fullscreen vtty (framebuffer) sessions, you should be able to use console-setup, or reduce the screen resolution of the framebuffer, which effectively increases font size. I use the latter method, by appending to the linu lines in Grub menu stanzas video=1440x900 whilst using a 1920x1200 display.

Ctrl+RightMouseButton in XTerm opens a menu from where the font size can be changed.

URxvt supports switching fonts via escape sequences.

I don't know what those are. I simply opened up a terminal window. There is no preference pane for the terminal in EOS. I'm just starting to get into Linux, even though I've been registered here for some years. I don't know why I registered back then, as I was just using windows and then MacOS. But I want to get into Linux now.

Maybe I should switch to another version, such as Ubuntu?:)

elementary Terminal is based on VTE library. Most VTE terminals I know of (GNOME Terminal, XFCE Terminal, Terminator, Guake, Tilda) will display a context menu on right click. You can look for preferences there.

Some of them will also zoom in/out on Ctrl++ / Ctrl+-.

If elementary ships with a terminal emulator that for some reason doesn't allow you to set fonts and font size, then you are perfectly welcome to install another terminal emulator instead. Try ten different ones, find your favorite, I bet they'll all allow setting font and size. That's certainly easier than switching distro. Unless you want to.
