Have you ever made a donation or a purchase to an open source organisation/project ?

A typical linux distro would cost thousands if it was to be rebuilt with proprietary equivalents. So how keen have you been to fund such an endeavour ?

Have you ever financially supported anything open source ?

Have you ever made a donation or a purchase to an open source organisation/project/company ? That includes buying a distro that's known to give back, donating to a project, buying a software that's open sourced or open source based, the condition being in all cases that there is an explicit give back to the community ?

Mandrake 8.0, 8.2. Redhat 7.0, 8.0, nvidia (emailed that the purchase reason was Linux support), Moneydance and Tuxracer (full version). Will be shipping another ~$50 or so for the next Mandrake or Suse. Kinda giving up on Redhat/Fedora (tired of always adding multimedia post install on all my families/friends computers. I know it isn't Redhats fault, still a pain, every time).

I buy distro's every so often to help support and donate.

I've also donated to LQ along with FSF and to Apache once before.

I also believe when you participate on this site, either asking questions or answering others questions, its a form of donating as well.

Cheers.

Bought Linux and BSD, contributed patches, testing, support, idea's. I totally agree with Tricky (active and constructive) participation in the Linux community is an excellent form of donating.

I agree that contributing is a great way of donating, but money allows to buy food and other handy stuff. Also, the GPL needs defending against people or companies breaking it. That requires money. hence the question about donation

I am an Associate Member of the Free Software Foundation.

I have bought distros from RedHat and Mandrake.

I bought the coffee cups from www.linux.org.

And yes I will eventually get around to buying one off LQ.

And I hope to one day submit some code.

I bought distros back before DSL was commonly available. I probably have 15-20 that I paid for.. including a recent one (BSD)
