GRUB bootloader questions.(Can I restore the windows bootloader & windows 10 upgrade)
Hello, I have some GRUB related questions.
Say I dual booted Windows 8.1 and Ubuntu Linux, Afterwards would I be able to use commands like "fixboot" and "fixmbr" in order to use the Windows bootloader instead? And would it be safe? I plan to do the Windows 10 Upgrade, and, If I had that dual boot setup, would it mess up anything? Thank you. |
Hopefully yes. Certainly always worked prior to Win8. Haven't tested it, but no reason to suppose otherwise.

you can but then you might as well reformat the ubuntu partition ( remove ubuntu)
windows bootloade will NEVER be able to boot Ubuntu Quote:
if windows is on the FIRST DRIVE in the bios and the MS bootloader is on the FIRST partition on the FIRST drive then NO , you should not have problems related to ubuntu BUT if ubuntu is on the FIRST drive and grub is on the FIRST partition then .... a ton dotnet framwork will error and any service pack will error and a upgrade will fail MS checks to MAKE 100%% SURE it is on the first drive and is the DEFAULT booting it is a royal pain in the rear end so just adjust the boot order so that the drive with windows and the windows MBR are the FIRST!!!! option |
If I were to dual boot, I guess I would upgrade to Windows 10 and then do the dual boot.
