ut2004 doesnt do anything >_<
right, so i got ut2k4(had it since the launch week) and i recently moved to linux. well, ive started to get back into. but now, i have to reboot to windows just to play my games. and that takes like half an hour because windows takes so freakin long to load(stupid ad-ware).
so my current problem is this, when ever i try to start the game, it just doesnt do anything at all. the screen doesnt flicker or anything. its just....normal......... specs: pentium 4. 2.6 ghz 768 2400 ram(maybe 2100, i dont remember) geforce 4 MX 420 fedora core 3 updated ut2k4 all the way can anyone help me??? |
Hi.
Try launching it from a shell, and see if there's any errors. I take it you're using the nVidia drivers from their website? Dave |
umm...sorry, but im kinda new to gaming on linux(this is my first try)....
how do i launch from a shell? (do you mean a terminal?) |
Yeah, a terminal.
I'd do '/home/ut2004/ut2004', but it'd depend on where you installed UT to. Dave |
well, it started to work(thanks, its farther than ive gotten). but i got this...
[silintninjya@localhost ~]$ /home/silintninjya/ut2004/ut2004 Failed to enter NvidiaLogo.ut2: Can't find file for package 'ONSNewTank-A' History: Exiting due to error [silintninjya@localhost ~]$ sooo...i have to go find that file i assume. edit: ok, got that in. now i get [silintninjya@localhost ~]$ /home/silintninjya/ut2004/ut2004 WARNING: ALC_EXT_capture is subject to change! Couldn't set video mode: Couldn't find matching GLX visual |
Are you using the 'nvidia' or the 'nv' driver?
|
i do not know, nor do i know how to check...
|
If you don't know, then you're using the nv driver, which means you don't have 3D acceleration.
Go to http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_d..._1.0-6629.html to get the latest driver. Make sure you read '(sec-03) EDITING YOUR X CONFIG FILE' in the readme at ftp://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Li...629/README.txt It's a pretty painless install. Once you're finished, you should have a working 3D driver, and UT2004 should work fine. Dave |
awesome, thanks!
how do i get out of X??? i cant figure it out and i dont want to crap anything up(i need to get into vga). |
The easiest way is to do 'telinit 3' as root.
Dave |
i copied and pasted that and it didnt work. ill do a search for google, but unless i report back, assume i failed.
edit:....i got a little farther on my own. now i have this error [silintninjya@localhost ~]$ /home/silintninjya/ut2004/ut2004 WARNING: ALC_EXT_capture is subject to change! Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0". Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0". Signal: SIGSEGV [segmentation fault] Aborting. Crash information will be saved to your logfile. Hi again.
Do you have 'Load "glx"' in the Module section of xorg.conf (and do you have 'Driver "nvidia"' in the Device section)? Dave |
i do have load glx. and when i put nvidia and reboot, my computer gets mad at me and it sets it back!
 |
Hmmm.
Did the nvidia driver install OK? |
it had to compile itself if i remember correctly. something about the kernel.
do i have to reboot for changes to take effect? i just went and put nvidia with out putting a # in front of DRI and the same thing happened. would you like for me to copy and paste my whole file? |
