How can I play MSX .dsk games?

Hi all.

I have no issues in playing .rom or .mx2 or .mx1 games as cartridges.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Check out the section about emulation on the page at
https://archive.org/details/msx-cham...ection-updated
and see if that helps.

Or, you could provide a lot more detail about what you have and what you want to do to see if we can offer more directed advice.

Hi. Thanks for the link. Alas, I'm still no where nearer to solving why I can't load .dsk games.

Are you running C-BIOS by any chance? It doesn't support disks, you'll have to find a real ROM. http://openmsx.org/manual/faq.html#rundiskstapes

Hi lvm_. I'm not sure where to go from here.

You should get BIOS image of a machine with a disk - they often present in MSX games collections and can be found on MSX sites e.g. here https://www.planetemu.net/roms/msx-bios, and add it to your openmsx installation as described here http://openmsx.org/manual/setup.html#installrom

Which ones do you own license for so you can play them legally?

I do. And a LOT of other gamers. The real question is "who is in the business of helping you break the law?" and the answer is NO ONE AT LQ!

You're certainly in the minority. Most folk download emulators and play roms that they either owned and no longer have or never owned. Who's the victim here? There's loads of roms online for which it's near impossible or not possible at all to buy and the only way to play them is via emulating the roms. Some laws are plain wrong: https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/...ess-laws-alarm.

What people do, what people WANT to do, and what YOU do is not at question. I am not doing anything that might get me pulled into court because of advice I gave here. There are sites where you can never tell if you are chatting with a Russian spy, an EU enforcement officer, or a breaker in China, and you can get all kinds of information and if you use it and get caught no one will care. This is not that place.

I have original media for the ones I play. I paid for a license to use that game/software/image. For some I may even have the receipts.

If you do not, then it is better to hit up GOG or Abandonia than to look for illegal images. The risk is just insane!
