are there any emulators for linux?

ive been wanting to get my hands on a lot of older games and i know just installing an emulator is the easiest way to get it done. i also know linux is said not to be the best for gaming. but i guess i just figure since it would only be an emulator it would be ok? am i wrong? will an emulator work? and if so are there any suggestions for what emulator to use? i wanna get a bunch of nintendo personally.... looking to play every single legend of zelda without having to search for the games and portable consoles

I use dosbox when I play captive or first release settlers and the like.

For SNES, I recommend:

I haven't tried it, but Nestopia is supposed to be more accurate (and of course more CPU-hogging) than fceux:

BTW, read this for some background and use it to inform your emulator choices:

not looking for nes or snes...it'd be nice to have all the zeldas but im really more in need of a game boy emulator, gameboy color, gamy boy advance, gamecube, nintendo ds and such... namely for Link's Awakening, Oracles of Seasons, Oracles of Ages, Wind Waker, Four Swords, Minish Cap, Phantom Hourglass, and Spirit Tracks

There is no gamecube emulator that works.

VisualBoyAdvance-Merge. AKA VBAM.

nintendo ds
For DS games, the recommended emulator is the Windows version of DesMuME, running in Wine. (there's a Linux version, but the devs themselves recommend running the Windows version in Wine instead).

You may want to check out this website, has a reasonable list of emulators, a bit of info and links to source code:
http://www.zophar.net/linux.html

May want to check if its prepackaged in the ubuntu repo's before downloading the source code.
