Updating 2.6.9-5.EL
 
Hi friends,

I am Having RHEL-4(2.6.9-5.EL) in my PC.Can I upgarde it to 2.6.17-x.EL, If so How can i do that.And Plesae any body explain me the diff b/w Enterprise Linux and General Linux.

A valid subscription to RHN is required.

Red Hat only releases the enterprise version now, the freely available version what you are calling general Linux is for the Red Hat family is Fedora;

FYI: The kernel you are wanting to upgrade to way old the current for RHEL 4.x is kernel-2.6.9-67, also it looks like you have some old beta release of RHEL4 since when first released the kernel version was 2.6.9-5.0.3

Suggestion if you want a freely available 100% binary compatible version of RHEL4 minus some artwork and other legal stuff then use CentOS. CentOS 4.6 is the latest released version which is like RHEL 4 update 6 AS+workstation. CentOS 5.1 is the newest version overall and is like RHEL5.1 AS+workstation;
