RHEL Enterprise 5 freezing
 

Just installed RHEL 5 entprise after having a tonne of problems (kept stopping finally got it going with the no linux apm=off acpi=off pci=noacpi). Now after booting into the OS, the pointer and everything else freezes intermittently (no set time, can freeze every 20 seconds or every minute or two). I get some messages during startup though:

PCI: Cannot allocate resource region 1 of device 0000:00:14.0

and

powernow-k8: MP systems not supported by PSB BIOS

The setup:

Dual Core AMD 3800+
3 GB of DDR800 Patriot Ram
Asus M2A-VM
Dual Sata drives (Windows on primary and RHEL 5 running on the secondary drive).
Onboard ATI card.

Any help would be great thanks.

Edit: I also updated the BIOS to the latest version as I was not able to install RHEL 4 originally).

Lets see what that device is for starters..

lspci -v -s 0000:00:14.0

and what type of server is this, or what is the motherboard manufacturer / model number..

sorry for the delay my Mainboard is Asus M2A-VM with the latest BIOS revision. I wil lget the output of the lspci this evening.

I would get an error when using that command, it says that 0000:00:14.0 does not exist.

OK how about just lspci then.

Interesting it says it can't give a device resources, then claims the device doesn't exist when yu go to check what it is..

lspci will just list other devices, none seem to match the 0000:00:14 one. I wiped the machine and tried to install in Windows virtual server 2005 but I can't even get it to load. I think I will get some old hardware together and load it that way. There seems to be too many issues with dual core athlons and the new Asus m2a boards. Thanks for the help.

Well I found a workaround for this issue. I installed the 64bit version of RHEL5 and everything installed fine with no errors (except for the PCI error message which did not go away and probably did not have anything to do with the hangups). Running smooth for now...
