New to RedHat Ent. 5 Questions
My company is in desperate need to configure a mail server to send outgoing mail for multiple domains. We've tried the Microsoft approach and not had any success. We're now attempting to use RedHat Ent 5 and to be honest, I know very little about the Ent versions and need some advice/recommendations.
Questions: 1) Is there some type of gui based remote administration utility that is installed by default (i.e. webmin). If not, can I just download webmin and register the mods? 2) We're leaning towards Postfix for the MTA. I know Sendmail is installed by default, but would like to know if there is a better alternative for outbound mail relaying. Thanks in advance. Les |
there's nothing remote by default, but webmin is very very easy to install.
as for postfix, you can actually pick between sendmail or postfix at install time. redhat prefers postfix but still isn't brave enough to move away from sendmail. so sendmail will get the default nudge, but postfix is right there to pick. I could also throw something like zimbra, which is effectively an exchange replacement, so does standard email stuff but also the full exchange stuff.. calendars, meetings yada yada... and i *think* it's also reasonably "pretty" and friendly to manage compared to the lower level MTA's you're already aware of. |
Chris,
Thank you for your response. I'll have to take a look at the zimbra application. Question; is there much user acceptance of the app? My biggest concern is support? Thanks, Les |
