How to add Linux machine in to Domain ?
Hello,
I have Windows based domain. I install Madnriva 2007 on my workstation machine. I configured proxysettings, enabled Samba and etc etc. Specified static IP we use internaly. I can access other nodes via Samba browser. But the problem is when i try to access intranet http based servers by uisng http://abc it redirects my request to www.google.com . I added by passs proxy for a.c.c.* range not to use proxy, i select bypasss proxy for local servers in FireFox in Mandriva. From Windows XP , i can browser local intranet servers via http. What could be the problem ? Another problem is we have Exchange 2003 server. I use Kmail. I select IMAP and specify host name of my exchange server, it is unable to locate the host. Is it due to port blocking ? For IMAP it uses 400 series port. I also tried by POP3, not working. Any solution? By https , i can access my e-mail account associated with my company. :o Thanx, Regards, |
Not sure about your first problem, but the Exchange problem is cuz Exchange doesn't use IMAP. It uses MAPI. I don't think KMail has MAPI support. Try using Evolution instead. It supports Exchange.

Your first problem sounds like name resolution. Since you set your ip as static did you set up the name server in the /etc/resolv.conf file?

Thank you. I edited resolv.conf via console using vi command. And added my company's domain name in search domain line. :)
I also made some changes in Samba & in NFS. From "Run" menu if i type "smb://apple/" it shows me folders of respective windows based machines. But i am not able to locate a single click folder where i can see all hosts. Like in Fedora Core 4 distro, it has Network Neibourhood icon where i was able to see all Windows based machines in my domain. Anyway. I'll do some R & D on it. :D Thanx again for your help. Regards, Amey Abhyankar. [ Now i am able to access Intranet web sites using FireFox web browser even by putting names not IP address. ] Quote:
