Boards with Ethernet and Composite Video out?
 

Hey,

I'm looking for a project for around 80 single board computers. We need to keep the price low so I need the most economical way to get 80 boards that are able to connect to the local network via Ethernet and can output video via a composite output.

The Raspberry Pi 1 Model B (original, NOT +) looks like a promising option but seems hard to acquire in large quantities nowadays.

Any other (cheaper?) options? Any idea where I could get 80 Pi 1 Model Bs?

Allied Electronics currently has 367 RPi Model B's in stock, at $32.99 each. I think that's probably your best bet.

Adafruit also has them, but their site doesn't say how many. You could email to find out, and ask for a quantity discount while you're at it.

Composite? Pi B is probably a good bet (only bet?). If you're looking to Xdmx them, then be advised that Xdmx has a built in limit of 16 screens. I'm not sure if you could nest Xdmx for more screens. And Xdmx hasn't seen much love since like 2004. If you can't find them, existing owners might be up for a flat trade for the Pi 2.

Hey, thank you both! $32 is very likely beyond our budget. As we still have some time to procure these, I was thinking about getting Pi Zeros (hoping they become available in bulk any time soon) and use USB Ethernet adapters and the unpopulated composite video header they offer.

In the end we do not need any fancy Xdmx setup. I will try to use multiple setups of Pi Wall (http://www.piwall.co.uk/) to get a video signal to all of the screens.
