"Raw" Live CD

Hi, i have some ideas about making my own distro with some "different" features. I want it to run on CD (live distro).
I certainly could take Knoppix or something like this and remove the unwanted programs, then install the programs i need. But is it necessary? I mean, is there another live distro that is kind of raw (with few programs)?

Have you tried the slax live-cd?
They make it very easy to modify the CD, if you're only making minor changes, and it starts quite small (if I remember right, about 110MB).

You just put any additions into the rootcopy folder, and these will get added to the file system before startup. So, for instance, I added an rclocal script which started up sshd. I use this CD to access my headless server when I've done something stupid.

I just had another look here:
http://slax.linux-live.org/download.php
Things have changed a little. There are many 'editions', starting at 52MB (looks like no desktop), and the standard one is 184MB.

Nice project
