How can i make mplayer adjust only master volume rather than PCM volume
 
The volume control on mplayer changes my PCM and i dont want it changed. I need it to only effect the master volume like all the other programs do.

what audio driver do you use?
in Preferences->Audio tab->Available drivers:
try choosing alsa and in "Configure driver" change the mixer channel to Master
