RHCE in RHEL 5 or RHEL 6 ?
Hi all,
I am in a fix. I recently completely my training in RH033, RH133 and was planning to register for RH253 in order to take the RHCE certification. But now that RHEL6 is out, I am confused if I should take RH255 and then register for RHCE in RHEL6, or complete RH253 and register for RHCE in RHEL5. I do know that quite few things have changed in the training syllabus and also my confidence level with the new syllabus isn't that great compared to the old one. But I also feel I might miss out on something if I don't go for RHEL6. It would be very helpful if someone can clear my confusion. If someone can tell me the pros and cons of both i.e. RHCE in RHEL5 and RHCE in RHEL6 that will certainly help me decide. P.S: I am from Bangalore and the last date for me to register for RHCE in RHEL5 is first week of February 2011. So I’ll have to complete the 3rd module within this time if I am to go for RHEL5. Regards, Vinod |
Well firstly you should definitely do your RHCE on RHEl6, as it'll buy you an extra 2 years or so or validity. My RHCE is on RHEL4 and when the RHEL6 RHCE is available, I lose my accreditation until I resit. I can't see the syllabus changing to any real significant extent, but the safe option would be to the a course using RHEL6 of course.

Where are you seeing this reference to 3 years? The RHCE FAQ still states that it is two revisions, not time based. It does, however, still talk about redhat 8.0...

Please correct me if i am wrong, but the following quote does mention 3 years:

pfft, so much for "current"! https://www.redhat.com/certification/rhce/faq/#current
yeah that's not anythign I was aware about. Personally I'd still certainly go for rhel6 either way. |

Yeah, My RHCSA is only in the "Current" status for 3 years, but my RHCT is Current until RHEL:7
Even if they expire, you are still allowed to use the RHCSA and RHCT as a "Cert" you have. Just got a lengthy email from Redhat about this change. |

What's the point in doing the RHCT AND the RHCSA? seems like a total waste of time compared to doing the RHCE. |
because i went for my RHCT - and was grandfathered and got the RHCSA for free... 2 for the price of 1

Update : I appeared for the RHCE exam today. (RHEL 5)
Expecting the results very soon. A question to follow: As mentioned before, if i get certified as RHCE on RHEL 5, I get an option to go for RHCSA (RHEL6) for Rs.2500. Considering the actual cost, this is a good offer. So, should i go ahead and register for RHCSA (only) or consider upgrading only if I register for RHCE on RHEL6 too. |
hello guys.....can i expect any reply to my question.
And about the results.....i earned my RHCE :) RHCT : 100 RHCE : 90.6 |
