Unhappy SIOCSIFFLAGS error

Just installed Fedora as a dual boot machine with WIn2K. Networking working great until Fedora. I've tried the "remove kudzu from 3 4 5, but i'm still getting the error of:

SIOCSIFFLAGS: Device or resource busy and failded to brung up eth0.

The card is just not initializing and binding an IP address and other info. This card was fine and working all the other version of Red Hat.

Any suggestions.

Thanks.

What is the make and model of the card and what driver are you using?

what are /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-etho settings?

can you add a snippet from the messages in /var/log/messages

also lsmod listing and what you have in /etc/modules.conf for ethernet if any.

Your card isn't being detected properly, or the module for it isn't getting loaded before Fedora tries to bring the card up.

I can't get a copy of the message logs into this, however, I did find the section that relates to the eth0. It says a couple of things:
"warning IRQ 0 unlikely to work"
"No known for interrupt pin A of device 00:0a.0 Please try using pci=biosirq
"00:0a.0 3com Cyclone 10Mbps TPO at 0x900. Vers LK1.1.18-ac"
"eth0: Could not reserve IRQ0"

Hi,

I am having the exact same problem with Red Hat 9.
I tried the onboard LAN, a SiS900 as well as my Realtek
rtl8139.

when trying the realtek i disabled the SiS900 in the bios.
My motherboard is an ASUS P4S800 by the way.

After posting my previous message i searched the forum for similar problems (should have done that sooner) because i found a post which suggested to disable the plug & play OS feature in the bios.
i decided to give it a try and to my surprise RedHat detected both the SiS900 and the realtek. after this i had no problem configuring the network.

In fact i am posting this message from Linux.

THANKS !

Thankyou very very much.

I was having the exact same problem also with a SIS900 onboard NIC.

Motherboard is an ASUS P4SGX-MX and I am running Redhat 9 (Shrike)

Disabling PNP OS in BIOS solved this problem and prevented me going prematurely bald.

Thanks again - I am very appreciative !

First: If you have a P4 with hyperthreading (ht) make sure that the kernel supports this. I suggest you to use a 2.6.x-kernel because ht-support of a 2.4-kernel is poor.

Second: Turn off the plug-and-play option in your BIOS!!!

Then it should work.

Wink SIOCSIFFLAGS no more!!!

Thanks a bunch folks. I have been working on this one for a couple days. Disabling Plug and Play OS in the BIOS did the trick! I'm running Slackware 7 BTW. -jnooley
