Computer OK for Puppy Linux???
 

Hey there I was looking at a computer and these were the specs (it is a really good price)

HP PAVILION 4445 DESKTOP
(NO OPERATING SYSTEM INSTALLED)
INTEL CELERON 366MHZ CPU
64MB SDRAM
4.3GB HARD DRIVE
CD-ROM DRIVE
3.5" FLOPPY DRIVE
ATI RAGE IIC VIDEO
RIPTIDE SOUND
ROCKWELL HCF MODEM
NE2000 ISA NETWORK CARD

And was wondering if it would be OK for Puppy Linux if i changed it to about a 10 gig HDD and 128 megs RAM (maybe even 256 later)?

Yes. It's okay.

Won't even need to upgrade. Puppy should run well enough on the box as it is, but you'll need to set aside a swap partition. Puppy will try to load all of itself into RAM, and with the swap partition it will succeed in doing so.

I gotta (laptop) 166mhz Pentium MMX with a 2GB hard drive and 48mb of RAM, Puppy runs like a champion.

Puppy 2.01 now has better support for 32MB ram computers. Ideal is 128MB and above.

I never understood the love for Puppy... Last I tried using it, wouldn't even show any boot details, it would just send me straight onto the already installed OS.

That said, it could just be because my friend who burnt it is an idiot.

Ah man! DENIS DENNACE. Myself, I like to install the Debian linux on the older computers, such as the time when I got an old laptop. I installed DEBIAN, and was able to do some web browsing using links2. (Pentium 166MHz with 32MB RAM).
