I miss gv

I miss gv (ghostview) for reading postscript eps files.
Since FC4 gv has been excluded.

Does somebody have an rpm for gv ? I tried to build from source without success.

The others: evince , ggv , kview wouldn't allow me to set page size at runtime.
I need to edit the bounding box by hand to display in A4.
And they are slower than gv.

You might like to try http://www.rpmfind.net//linux/RPM/re....8-9.i386.html (rpmfind.net).

Thanks mj, but the gv rpm you point is for Redhat 6.2, not for Fedora Core 4 - FC4.

Yes, I did realise this :)

However, it is almost certain that it will also work on your system as a) FC is derived from RH, and b) the version of RH in the link is older than that of FC4.

mj

the rpm doesn't work mj, it complains about dependencies.
the gv source also didn't compile - maybe due to the new gcc version in FC4.
but, fortunately, there is gsview, in FC4 extra that seems as good as gv - so my feeling seems to have been happy again.

This doesn't seem too out of the ordinary -- the usual procedure would simply be to install the missing packages at the same time, or upgrade gcc (this latter one wouldn't normally halt a compilation -- normally it would simply be a missing library that needed installation).

Anyway, great to hear that you have something working :)

Cheers,

mj

To be more accurate:
The rh6.2 rpm that you pointed complains about dependencies.
Tried fc3 rpm, it can be installed but error at runtime.

Well, doesn;t matter now, thanks.
