Wifi failed to install during installation, how to configure it now

.Hi, first time Debian user. During the install, the system refused to take my correct password, so I have no network. How do I configure it now (plus other stuff, like adding X11, etc.?

I'm looking for a settings app or something like that where I can just get it all at one time.

Thanks

Is the wireless adapter the same from your other thread? Is it recognized i.e the output of the command ip a show a wireless adapter? Networking by default is under control of Network Manager and without a desktop running you will need to use the nmcli command to setup wireless.

There are lots of guides on how to install a desktop on debian.

The newest network installer from Debian 12 has built in firmware. Did the installer see your wireless access point on boot-up and allow you to choose it? Make sure you select your wireless network card and not your wired connection. After you type in your password hit tab and then enter if you're using the non-graphical installer.

I'm glad you solved your connectivity issue. What was your solution?

I fixed another issue boot dvd for FreeBSD and went back to plan A for that new $20 Dell Optiplex 5050...FreeBSD. So the issue no longer exists.

Thanks

Nice!! I'm currently running FreeBSD 13.2 in a VM. I've happily used FreeBSD since 5.x. :)

Have you ever created an FTP server with FreeBSD's ftpd (ftpd - D)? I did last night and after connecting once from my slackware system, it just times out, but still works great within the FeeeBSD system. Ever seej this before? Nothing in /var/log/messages, and syslog hasn't even logged anything yet.

Nice!! I ran a server in Linux, not on the BSDs. I suggest that you post your server question in the BSD section of LQ or on the FreeBSD forum. The FreeBSD forum is probably your best bet. Good luck! :)

I posted it in the FreeBSD forum last night. But when you mentioned using FreBSD I thought it couldn't hurt to ask.

Thanks

I have found that the BSD community is very helpful if you're willing to do some of your own legwork with troubleshooting. There's lots of freely available documentation out there. When we migrate away from pointy-clicky operating systems we're expected to do some of our own research. I'm not trying to insult or patronize you at all. The BSD community likes users who help themselves.

Ok, that's the second time I've been kicked out of this "editor" while typing a response.

So, short version, past experience on android help emails, I know. And I did. I also found my old (1989, 1st ed) copy of Evi Nemeth's Unix System Administration. Not much for Linux users, but for BSD users, it's great. I got mine at the '89 Interop where, I believe, she introduced it (and sold a LOT of copies, too---it was an instant hit). Anyways, I'll be checking in it, too.
