READ THIS: If You Have Problems With The DSL Boards

I have registered with the Official Damn Small Linux board, but despite activating my account, it won't let me post. Any one have any idea who I can contact? There is no admin link on the board.

Thanks.

Paul

I don't think you should be asking that question on the lq board. just my opinion though

paulsiu 11-26-2007 01:28 AM

Well, I do agree that the question is a bit on the grey side. It is however a legitimate question. I have tried to locate a link to an admin on the site, I have tried for a whole week so far.

Basically, I have questions not answered on this board that I hope someone on DSL board may know, but I can't get on. Perhaps, their board may be suffering malfunctions that are preventing new users from joining. Would it not be harmful to the DSL community if no new person can join?

In any case, my involvement with this distro may end because may be there is no community.

OK, I found info on another thread on LQ. Apparently DSL board started requiring people to email them a message telling the admin that they are not bots because DSL board has been getting too much spam. Unfortunately, the message is embedded within the activation message and is easy to miss. When I get permission, the first thing I will ask is for them to correct this issue.

paulsiu-Are you able to post on that site now? I have had the same problem but I did email them telling them that I was a real person and not spam, and I still can't post. This was weeks ago.
I was just wondering if you can post now since you emailed them.

No I cannot

I email dsl gmail account twice and contacted john, but no one replied. Perhaps the community is dead or do not accept new members

Just letting everyone know that I finally got access to the DSL official board. Apparently, they are having problems with "division of labor". In any case, it is a volunteer community so patience may be needed at time.

Because there seem to have been a few people having issues with the DSL forums I have stickied and renamed this thread as it gives info on sorting the problem out.

Excellent stuff - feel free to post an update to the sticky too so it gets maximum coverage.

I seem to have solved my DSM board posting problem simply by enabling the "Remember my log-in details" option when logging in via damnsmalllinux.org/cgi-bin/forums/ikonboard.cgi?.

This takes you to a screen with Control Panel access and Log Out options. If you return to this screen after posting and use the Log Out option you are told that all cookies will be disabled after the session and apparently - in Firefox 2.0.011 at least - they are.

Followed these directions, still no posting allowed for me.

If you've followed all the registration procedures correctly - these are quite complicated as they are designed to keep spammers out - it seems the only thing you can do is wait a few days and try again. Repeat as necessary. BOL.

Which explains why I fail to post there too. I didn't try the keep my box though.
One should be able t opost without clicking such or they should tell it in the
email one get. Up front so on see it. Very frustrating to try and try and try
and always get the message your not allowed to post in that part of the forum.

They could tell one should write an email instead if that is what is requiered.

As indicated there : http://damnsmalllinux.org/wiki/index...#User_pierro78 I (pierro78) followed the instructions to get posting rights on the DSL forum but I am still waiting for an answer ...

roystonlodge 08-02-2008 09:38 AM

After posting about my forum diffuculties on the "Forum Substitute" part of the DSL Wiki, somebody from DSL replied on the Wiki requesting that I email dsl.reg at gmail.com with more information. I did as requested, but I'm still waiting to get permission to post.

Suggestions to DSL: You could add a link to the DSL Forum on LinuxQuestions.org for people who are having problems with the DSL Forums. It would be nice to boost the traffic here so there are more answers instead of just questions. Or, in the DSL Forums you could add the ability for users to delete their accounts completely so they can try registering again without having to create a new username.

Has anybody ever received a response from dsl.reg at gmail.com? I've tried registering with a different username, and I'm still getting the same problem. I've sent plenty of emails to dsl.reg at gmail.com, but with no luck.
