DSL on Dell Laptop:mouse and touchpad not working same time

I use a dell inspiron 640m with ubuntu feisty. I was attracted by the small size and good looks of dsl. Yet the first time I run the live cd I notice that the touch pad scroll does not work. so being used to "plug and play" in ubuntu I plugged in my usb mouse but was disappointed that it did not work.
I tried the dsl forum, was registered but until now cannot post on the forum so I came here.
I do not know what else does not work but since the mouse/touchpad is one of the parts that is used frequently it has to be solved first..
thanks!

you mentioned that you are using DSL, which version are you using? How did you configure your mouse?

Your touchpad is not USB, it is (if I remembered correctly) IMP/2. so you can try a xsetup.sh in a terminal and choose a proper mouse again. Then run xinit to start your X-windows session.

If you are switching over to USB, then you will kill X again, and run xsetup.sh again choose USB mouse and xinit to restart your X-windows.

Enjoy!

DSL 4.0

I did not do any mouse config, I am a linux beginner and so used to ubuntu that I am reluctant to do any experimenting on config. As I mentioned both touchpad and usb mouse are working AT THE SAME TIME in ubuntu. I wanted to make it the same way in dsl.
Note that the usb mouse WORKS if I plug it in before starting dsl live cd.but the touchpad no longer works when I use the usb mouse.

Don't worry about messing something up on a live CD. Experiment to your hearts content -- and then some! Any changes you make you will be gone on the next boot unless you explicitly do something to save them.

Also note that one may use the USB mouse OR mouse pad but not both at same time. This is a I really don't know for sure but suspect this is the case. Also:
... You should really get the book "The official Damn Small Linux book" by Shingledecker, Andrews and Negus as it really helps out a lot since one can anticipate forth-coming screens/requirements. The mouse set up is in the third BOOT UP (I believe if you do not take the second autoconfiguration) stage with selection of "type of DSL X server to use" using the server's setup or boot-option mentioned later here. There are two types presented: 1. an Xvesa and 2. Xfbdev server. Next is the quary for DSL X mouse setup: USB mouse ?? [yes/no].
... You need to check out the boot options one can issue on boot up. There are many so make a printed list. Try an auto config using: boot: dsl vga=normal (lowers screen resolution) or boot: fb800x600 (uses framebuffer video, note "NO dsl" in command for this one).
...
Keep notes on what you did handy and then come back and let us know how things worked out.
