Back up Damn Small Linux running on Virtual Box
Hello,
I'm currently trying to back up my DSL configuration but I cannot find any partitions when i search. I'm on virtual box but typing in hda1,sda1,sdb1, etc aren't working. Any help would be much appreciated |
#1 virtualbox guests are best backed up by backing up the disk image and configuration file so that they may be imported as a new machine later. This also supports cloning onto another server.
#2 DSL is intended to run as a LIVE-CD image. If you have not done one of the install methods, it runs from the ISO imae and does not really require a virtual disk drive device. If you are running it this way, there is nothing to back up other than the ISO file and settings. In any case, we would need a lot more information about your server and virtual guest than you have provided before being able to provide well targeted answers. Is there more information that you might want to make available? |
Hey, I'm sorry for taking a while this is my first time on linuxquestions. I'm running DSL 4.11 in virtual box locally. When I type in fdisk -l, it returns nothing. I've tried several ways but I can't even identify any partitions.

DSL does not REQUIRE a drive, but will use one (for persistence) if it is present. If no drive exists, then you would naturally not find it. |
You may well have a persistence file with your alterations, not sure what they call it, (it's been a long time since I used DSL), but it will be there if you didn't do an installation. (It may be in the root of your drive.)
Maybe this is it. backup.tar.gz https://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...sl-4175478180/ https://aplawrence.com/Linux/damn_small_linux.html Quote:
