Conectiva on New computers

Hi All,

Has any installed Conectiva 10 on a brand new computer?

If so what was your experience?

Thanks,

Very easy to setup but i am having problems to find up to date rpm files like qt library to run skype :( other than that it is very easy to setup and run. Easier than fedora core 1 that i also have installed on my desktop.

Hi There,

NettBr posted these links for RPM updates for Conectiva 10

rpm http://espelhos.edugraf.ufsc.br/conectiva/10 i386 001 002 003 extras
rpm http://espelhos.edugraf.ufsc.br/con...atualizacoes/10 i386 updates
#
rpm ftp://ftp.unicamp.br/pub/conectiva/10 i386 001 002 003 extras
rpm ftp://ftp.unicamp.br/pub/conectiva/atualizacoes/10 i386 updates

You should try to get the updates from there.

I personally had problems with the CL10updatebeta2 via bittorrent.

So tell me what is the make of your new system? Did you purchase it from a major manufacturer or did you custom build your new computer?

I am interested in knowing this because if I am going to pitch Conectiva 10 to potential clients then they are going to want to know about hardware compatibility, ROI, ease of use, etc.

Business users here in the United States are starting to seriously consider Microsoft alternatives because $199 per client seat is alot money to pay just for an operating system.

Microsoft is going the way of its former competitor CP/L because they are pricing themselves out of small business market.

So I hope to hear from you soon,

Thorn

I have it setup in a DELL latitude CPx laptop and so far it works just fine. I managed to have skype working here but now i am having problems to setup the microphone... I highly recommend fedora core and conectiva distro's since they are pretty good. Conectiva keeps its system as up to date as possible if you use apt to update and upgrade your system. Regarding hardware compatibiloity you have to check if the kernel version would support it. Conectiva 10 is 2.6.5. I consider it a very good distro.
