need help with a amd onboard gpu
I have been on this forum in hardware section looking for a solution to a nagging driver problem with an Amd onboard gpu. Someone told me to switch over to this specific centos section to find help. My latest issue was when I did an automatic suggested upgrade to kernel. I am not a seasoned user but have been using centos for a couple of years. After the kernel update the amdgpu driver won't load. I have error logs etc. with specific info. I am wondering if downgrading the kernel would fix the error since it did work before updating and even if that's feasible? I have also tried some of the AMD proprietary drivers to try to fix it. Some of which are still installed. in short I have a mess and don't know how to get back to sanity.
I had 3.10.0-1062.18.1.el7 running before the update. Now it's running 3.10.0-1127.el7.x86_64. I am looking for a solution that does not involve reinstalling the OS. Any ideas appreciated! Roger |
Is kernel 3.10.0-1062.18.1.el7 still installed? Does booting it instead change anything?

No. It's still the same error. I wonder if it's trying to use an amd driver that I had installed earlier? Error is about firmware not found.

Do /etc/X11/xorg.con* exist? If so, is there anything amd* in it? |
Update
I have fixed this problem. I hadn't messed with this for awhile, but decided to work on it Yesterday.
I went back into my Yum history info and found I had installed an AmdPro 19.50 driver somewhere along the way. Along with another install related to the amd driver - don't remember what it was now. I uninstalled the two packages and after reboot no more errors and am able to set my resolution to 1440x900 using xrandr. Thanks to all for help. Roger |
