After applying "Yum update" in Centos 7.6, the "Updating" following transaction proceeds very slow

Greetings.

I am trying to get a base CentOS system to proceed with other installation i.e., Openstack.

When i install Centos 7.6 (either minimal or with gnome desktop), and when yum update is applied, the necessary files are downloaded (at reasonable speed based on the internet link capacity) quickly. Subsequently when the files are applied as updates, the update proceeds at a very very low speed.

Attached are two screen shots indicating the observed behavior. The update doesn't get completed even beyond 24+ hrs.

Execution of "strace" with pid of "yum" indicates yum continues to perform some operations.

The CPU cores are not loaded.

A view of "top" at the start of yum update indicates, low "buff/cache" value, less used, and more free. But as time proceeds, the buff/cache increases, free reduces.

Can you kindly indicate what i could be missing, or making a mistake please?

I have observed this behaviour in 4 different systems in the last 5 days. Pretty much stuck.

Thank you in advance,
Best regards
Manikantan
