VM for Bodhi
 

Never used a VM in my life, so title may be vague.

What is the recommended virtual machine for use on Bodhi. Have more space then I would ever use up, so I would like to try other OS's via VM, just something that came to mind no more 15 minutes ago.

i use kvm/qemu with virt-manager for all of my vm's (not just bodhi). it was fairly easy to set up and is said (from what i have read) to be easier on system resources than something like virtualbox. i have also read that it might not be as easy to use as virtualbox. so if you have plenty of ram and a decent cpu, virtualbox might be a better place to start.

I have a 1TB HDD and 16 GB ram, cpu is a Intel Core I7-6700 @ 3.4 GHz, or 4 GHz as some reports like using "inxi -F" in terminology.

an i7 with plenty of ram seems like either program should work for you. i don't find kvm/qemu hard to work with. i haven't worked with virtualbox in years. there are probably other suitable options. those are just the two that came to mind.

virtualbox is in the repos. you should be able to install it with with sudo apt install virtualbox if you want to take a look.

kvm/qemu requires a bit more setup. i can post the steps i used to set mine up if you are interested :)

i am sure you are right about video tutorials. this is a site that i often use and trust (text for installation, not video): https://itsfoss.com/install-virtualbox-ubuntu/. i have heard the guest additions are helpful. they are mentioned at the very bottom of that first link: https://itsfoss.com/virtualbox-guest-additions-ubuntu/.

Well that was quite easy and works. And without any kind of help from websites or videos, so far.

Installed Windows XP Pro and service packs, along with Visual Basic 6 and service pack.

Gave it 2 GB ram, 10 GB space, still trying figure out other parts of it.
