Fail to boot on USB with YUMI
Hi, total newbie here, nice to meet you.
I’m trying to install Bodhi 5.1.0 legacy on a MSI laptop. (Intel atom 2,66 GHz, 1Go DDR2 on windows XP) Seems like I can’t load a live version from USB. When I boot from USB, I end up with this message, even if I choose «*Test without installing*» or «*Install*», after an animation with a green leaf and a red circle around it. [ 4.616211] sd 2:0:0:0: [sdb] no caching mode page found [ 4.616369] sd 2:0:0:0; [sdb] assuming drive cache: write through Busybox v1.27.2 (Ubuntu 1:1.27.2-2ubuntu3.2) built-in shell (ash) Enter help for a list of built in commands. (Initramfs) _ I first tried with unetbootin then YUMI 2.0.7.0 (with each time a fat32 format first). I got the same message after the loading animation with each of them. What should I do ? Thanks in advance for your time. |
Try RUFUS instead. It's known to work in many circumstances when both YUMI and UNetbootin fail. It's actually recommended by Ubuntu (which Bodhi is based on).

Yes, Rufus is a working solution but be aware of using dd option. You can find it at the dialog before iso creation.

Look into Ventoy. I don't use anything else. Even the Rufus author believes Ventoy will replace them all.

I use ETCHER for all my flashing.. seems to work the best. RUFUS is my back up... will try this "ventoy thing.

Read this regarding how to install for Linux:

As to your comment, I'm the same way, I prefer to install stuff from repo/ppa than manually. But he does claim it'll never need updating. Maybe if its as useful as it sounds we could convince bodhi devs to package and put it in our repo. |
I am OK with placing ventoy to repo. I haven't time to check it out, but I saw the documentation and it looks like an CLI app. Nothing against from my POV but I would like to see something comparable to unetbootin app with GUI for Linux beginners frightened to command line. Fortunately I have found a frontend project created in yad here:
https://github.com/Philippe734/Snipp...GUI-for-ventoy It means, we can bind ventoy and gui together and make a deb package for it. Firstly we really need to do some research. Stefan |

The YAD based GUI does look nice, as well. |
I used RUFUS on another computer (it need a x64 architecture to run) and it works like a charm. Installing now. Thanks for your reply guys.

That being said, this ting rocks. I ran it on my workPC which runs windows and copied BodHi-Standard, Kubuntu-20.04, Windows10-Install and KNeon all onto it (was a 16 gig usb) and they all booted fine. Seriously cool. |
