Eternal sleep of the Thinkpad R51 or how to wake it up
Good day everyone,
I am new here and new to Bodhi but not new to Linux or Unix type systems so I know my way around reasonably well although not what I would call a power user yet. I searched the forum first to see if this had come up before and found nothing so if this has been covered already apologies. Anyway I had to get an old IBM R51 up and going again and I installed the 32bit Legacy install of Bodhi 5.0 and I have to say I am very very impressed. I doubt the computer ran this well brand new in 2004. But I have run into a bit of a snag. I found the settings to put the laptop to sleep when the lid is closed and that works great but I cannot seem to get it to wake up again. I suspect it might be because IBM used to love having their own fancy function keys for everything from accessing the BIOS to turning the night light off and on. I am wondering if this can be taken care of with a keyboard layout profile or is there somewhere I can setup custom key bindings to wake up the laptop? |
i'd start here:

Thinkpad r51 and ubuntu distros
Hello,
I have Bodhi 5, 64 bit on another Thinkpad machine i686, (from Europe), accepting ethernet-only. However, I did get my Thinkpad R51 to accept 18.04 Ubuntu xfce. wifi/eth., I thinks its an xubuntu. It runs just a bit slow. My suspend goes into a blackout then it needs a reboot. Logging-out is another option. The major problem for R51, is in the future if 32 bit is discontinued from linux distros. The 64 bits are taking over. |
never had an issue but i suspend and not hibernate. i suspend close laptop and open - i do have password n so enter pw and it works.
if i remember in hibernate i had to hit the power button for it to come back out of hibernate. it may take a second or two for it to happen. may try it again in a bit and get back. i have firewood to get in before rains start - they are almost here. so crunched time-wise. |
weird, just tried to hibernate via menu and it doesn't hibernate correctly - beeps and then goes to login password screen. as i said i never use it but use suspend - it always worked the few times i tired it so maybe a setting is set or a glitch from some update - i have the opposite issue than you... heh heh.
