Chinese input Method & Chinese Keyboard

Please see this video,
How to Use the Pinyin Keyboard on Android - Typing in Chinese" on YouTube
https://youtu.be/PnrjZnW5Ov0

The explanation is good , but
Even here it claims it is Chinese Pinyin Keybord, actually it is 100% English Keyboard
layout. So if you say Chinese Keyboard , it is English Keyboard !
Here the point is INPUT METHOD ,
"pinyin", it is the official romanization system for Standard Chinese in mainland China.

the pinyin method allows a user to input Chinese characters by entering the pinyin of a Chinese character and then presenting the user with a list of possible characters with that pronunciation, Here it is the pronunciation.
a short combination of keys will generate several words have the same pronunciation, then you pick.

Excuse me, but what is your question related to Bodhi Linux?

safaia 03-10-2020 01:29 PM

This is not a question, I just try to explain what Chinese input function should look like, a good show in this Youtube Video.
Show the keyboard ,for most popular Chinese pinyin input method,is 100% same as English Keyboard.
Hope it will help for the Bodhi to enbed the Chinese language support better. I am concerned that we put effort to try to make
Chinese input available using method which is not popular. Worried waste the time.
Maybe I should not post here. :)

Currently Bodhi already made it. so it is done. it is good. :)
Just the configuration to setup the Chinese input is a little bit complicated.

No problem. Every info posted here could be helpful for some users...

I just did not understand your first post. I was that person who helped you with Chinese input so I thought it was working and marked as solved. I have no experience with Chinese at all so I was really happy I helped you. Completely new to me. If there is something wrong or insufficient, let us know :)

Hi Stefan.
It works perfectly, Wonderful. Thanks a million !
Suggest to put the video on top of the Forum or include it in the online user guide,
Without the guide from this video ,it is easy to get lost in the complicated configuration steps. :)

I count with you as Bodhi forum member for Chinese guys who need help :)

Also as you are bilingual, I count with you with some translation to Chinese. Are you interested?

Hi Stefan,
Here I would like to share some of my ideas, just for reference.

Sure I would like to help. Anything I can do.
But I don't have programming skills.
I can translate the English to Chinese , the concern is I have left China long long time ago and I got University education in Canada
and live in Canada since then. So I don't know the correct translation for the tech. words.

By the way, I just think maybe we don't need to put efforts on the Chinese translation.

1) I do think the people who use Linux got good education and they know English very well, In China, some kids start
to learn English in kindergarten. Chinese, eps. the educated Chinese parents , take English education very seriously.
Every students must learn English, they need to pass exams, they maybe not good at speaking , but are fluent English readers.

2) The people who don't have good education, means their English is poor, Windows is more popular and easy for them. Windows has already
a long history in China and already taken a root in China.
It is hard for any linux OS to gain market share in this category of populations.

3) Currently Bodhi linux already has the capability to input & display Chinese. Good Enough.
Other Linux such as Ubuntu also just do this. Nothing need to do further. If have, it is just
make the enable process simple and easy, currently it is too complicated, here and there,
hard to follow and easy to get lost.

4) If talking about translate User Interface to Chinese, I will say it is a very bad bad idea.
No one will know the translation interface will do except Translator himself.
Chinese is totally different from Roman Languages.
Normally the translation is not Literal Translation (Direct translation),it is paraphrase,
base on the meaning , it
combines Chinese word to create a new words. The issue is different translators have different filters,
so they generate different words to express the same English Word, this is why foreign western word
maybe have different translation between Taiwan, Mainland China, Hong Kong and maybe Singapore.
E.g. the Chinese translation of name macron, merkel and trump.

All in All, I think we should put effort to sim·pli·fy the Chinese Enable process.
The ideal is to make the Chinese pack can be installed using apt-get or snap.
Just like Android can install the Chinese function as an app.

Just for reference.
