bodhibuilder in 5.0
 

i found myself in a situation where i could use a live usb with some specific utilities installed and that reminded me of bodhibuilder which i used a couple times on my old 4.5 install. originally i came to ask if it was still a part of 5.0 when i thought to search for it in the quick launcher. i'm glad to see it is there :) just wanted to say thanks for keeping it around and including such a useful tool in an otherwise already very useful distro

exactly. it created an iso of my specific system which i then wrote to a usb. that way i had the tools i have already downloaded and come to rely on for my system to help me take a look at a friend's ailing win7 system. bodhibuilder even gave me the choice of loading my user profile (including password) which probably would have been advisable if i were taking it anywhere. pretty cool set of options, all in all :)

otherwise i was looking at creating a persistent live usb and then having to install the utilities i needed before being able to get to work. bodhibuilder saved me plenty of time and energy :)

for the record, i only knew about the existence of bodhibuilder because it was listed under system tools applications in bodhi 4.5. on my 5.0 machine i had to launch the quick launcher, type in bodhibuilder and it was the second choice from the left listed as bodhibuilder-gtk. can also be launched from the terminal with sudo bodhibuilder-gtk :)

Hmmm... now that is something I will have to check out!

It's pre-installed under system tools on my 5.0 64-bit and legacy systems, not sure why it wasn't there for you. Perhaps its not in apppack version but that would be odd since it's the version with the most apps...

Either way, I'll give it a try. It's got me wondering, can I use bodhibuilder to make my liveusb, then use that liveusb to run bodhibuilder to install it onto a hard drive of another computer? I have another computer I'm thinking of putting bodhi on, be kinda cool to start with it all preconfigured my way. (Although half the fun is reconfiguring everything, always discover something new).

edit: Prolly better to start clean anyway, nevermind that idea.

i just checked and it isn't listed on my legacy install either, though it can be launched. on this one (my 64-bit system) i did go with the apppack version. like you said, not sure why it isn't listed, but i am glad it is available :)

i think you are probably right about a clean install. i was wondering about drivers (though i'm not entirely sure how the builder deals with them) when you mentioned the clone idea. maybe if all machines were the exact same hardware?

Can I install my Bodhibuilder Backup on another computer hard drive?
 

Back in October, Enigma9o7 asked the exact question that I have: "can I use bodhibuilder to make my liveusb, then use that liveusb to run bodhibuilder to install it onto a hard drive of another computer? I have another computer I'm thinking of putting bodhi on, be kinda cool to start with it all preconfigured my way."

Running it as a live cd is great, but I am also interested in actually installing it on another computer hard drive, cloning my backup to new hardware. Can I do this? Is a hardware-agnostic restore from a Bodhi backup possible?

i do not have in any menu on my legit installed appack install. not sure where you are find it to the above posts. i do not see any deafult app.

it isn't listed in any menu on either my 64- (appack) or 32-bit (legacy) system. i have to press alt + esc to launch the quick launcher and start typing "bodhibuilder" and it appears in the list of available options.

ok i never use the quick launcher - getting more luddite as i get old.

i rarely find myself using it either. the past week Stefan mentioned it a couple times and that is probably the only reason i remembered the alt + esc key binding. otherwise i have the few programs that i use with any regularity saved as favorites and most often launch them from that menu :)

Bodhibuilder is installed on all Bodhi 5 versions, including the legacy version, but it may not appear in the menus. To run it press Alt+Esc for the launch menu then choose "bodhibuilder-gtk". You can use it to create an installable system on your USB stick.

Hi Roger,
I've read your book, but to me it's still not clear if I can reuse the ISO on another PC.
I'm responsible for a non profit organization and I'm trying since 2-3 weeks to deploy a linux distro to multiple PCs.
Our goal is to deliver for free PCs to families with economic issues in order to have them been able to study from home - due to covid a lot of schools are closed here in Italy.
With bodhibuilder - the only package I've been able to install with no issues in my customized Mint - I'm able to create an ISO and have it on USB stick through Rufus / unebootin, but then when I start on another PC I can run the image but I cannot install it.

Is then this not the right tool for me?
