Bodhi Legacy does not boot from USB
Hi,
I would like to use Bodhi Legacy on an old laptop. Unfortunately it does not boot from USB. I am using Rufus to create a bootable USB. If I create ISO with Rufus then installation can be started but it stops with an error. When I create the USB in Rufus with DD mode then it does not boot from USB stick. Therefore there seems to be no issue with my bios boot settings. Do you have an idea why it does not boot when USB stick is created with dd mode? It it normal that all files are stored within folders on the USB stick when I create it in dd mode? Thank you very much for your support! |

Hi.
Just to make sure you checked the integrity of .iso (I, .C:) before following: II, .C: https://www.bodhilinux.com/w/install...n_Instructions if so? My next question then would be, bios boot settings... III, .A? But, if others.iso boot fine then we're up to wondering your hardware and all other possible intent\tries? Long story short: I'd try looking in BIOS settings first (e.g. https://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23161_01...044/glsem.html) if good,,, then for a different way to burn the ISO. Best wishes! :hattip: Add: what they^ said? :D |
Hi,
Thank you very much for your help. With ISO I am getting the error message "Unable to find a medium containing a live file system". That's why I have now created the boot USB with dd mode in Rufus. I read this in several threads. After reading the links which you have provided I came to the conclusion that my BIOS seems to have no UEFI option. I guess this laptop is just too old:( I guess then also dd mode in rufus does not help to boot Linux Legacy. Thanks for your help so far! |
I only gave that second link because we don't what your hardware is and BIOS are sometimes a problem to learn about?

A quick search for: tutorial on installing linux gives About 67,200,000 result, this one has some good info... https://www.cnet.com/how-to/how-to-install-linux/ ;) Add: If you're using windows 10 you can right click on an iso file, getting an option to burn it without Rufus? |
Which release version of Bodhi are you using?
You indicate that you are unable to boot from a usb so have you ever booted from a USB on this computer? Or is it just this USB that fails? If that's the case, then you need to verify the iso was downloaded properly which you were asked above and have not answered. |
Try a different usb port. Depending on the age of the system some systems will only boot a usb in a designated port.

Maybe the ISO is not USB bootable, you can prepare it yourself: Bootable USB stick
