Bodhi 5.1 WLAN connection with Intel Wireless 3165 is very halting

Hi there!

3 weeks ago I installed Bodhi 5.1 Legacy Release (32-bit) on a Schenker notebook. This notebook ran Bodhi (I think it was 5.0) before without problems.
Since this update it's WLAN connection is very halting. It's LAN connection to the same router is working uninterrupted as well as a WLAN connection of a second Schenker-PC with Bodhi 5.1.
I have found out that the second PC is fitted with a Qualcomm Atheros whilst the problem PC is fitted with an Intel wireless adapter 3165 (rev 81).

Attachment 36763

At this point my really humble Linux know how ends.

Well, I have found a recommendation what to do but this one is dated 2015. So I wonder if it makes sense to try that!?
Another link I found is the intel page containing the adapters firmware for Linux and I wonder if it might be an idea to install that!?

Can anybody help?

Thanks a lot!

I am not very experienced so eventually I would need detailed instructions, too. Sorry!

What exactly is the problem, it's unclear what "very halting" means? If there is a hardware on/off switching for wireless devices, of course make sure that's turned on.

The driver for the intel wlan should be included with the linux kernel installed with Bodhi and from your screenshot seems to be recognized...

One way to try another driver would be to upgrade to more recent kernel, which isn't part of normal automatic updates. But if older version of Bodhi didn't have the problem you are experiencing, that may be the wrong track. But, if you are out of ideas to try, its unlikely to hurt, and you can still boot the older kernel or revert back to it permanently if it does cause new issues.

If you want to try that, paste this command, then reboot, it'll bring you up to kernel version 5.4.x

Code:

sudo apt install --install-recommends linux-generic-hwe-18.04 xserver-xorg-hwe-18.04

Thanks a lot, enigma!
The kenrel update did help!

Sorry that "halting" was kind of unspecific. To me it seemed to be the best term I found in a dictionary... ;)
What I wanted to say is that the WiFi connection indicator didn't show any breaks but the connection quality did vary. A while it was all right, very often page views took some seconds and often page views were not possible at all.
