Bodhi 5.0.0 - new features

Hi, guys,

I am curious about how Bodhi 5.0.0 looks like and in what ways it is different from Bodhi 4.5.0.

I understand that everyone is busy but if someone could put a short video on YouTube that would be great.

Currently, there are three or four Bodhi 5.0.0 Alpha "reviews" that talk about Bodhi AppCenter and the installation process.

I believe that Bodhi deserves a better YouTube presence.

Thank you,

BaronMunchausen

To an end user there won't be many (any?) major changes between the 4.5 release and the 5.0 release. The main purpose of a new "major" release for Bodhi is to update the Ubuntu core that we build on top of. In this case Bodhi 5 is built on top of Ubuntu 18.04.

Hello

There are tons of fixes related to Moksha desktop background made by Ylee and some also visible for the end user made by me. I can mention some of them:
  • Icons on the desktop
  • Submenus showing to the left side (like LXDE)
  • Fixed long menu issue (when the number of items exceed the screen limits)
  • Full disk notification
  • Shot module - two dialogs
  • Systray grabbing issue fix
  • Many themes fixes and more

Give us some more time for the another BL 5 release. New Plymouth is preparing and there are also some theme tweaks in arc-theme in the plan.

As we have two Bodhi Linux forums now, I can put here also my announcement for another feature. Although it is not a direct part of moksha, you can install it as a deb package in new Bodhi 5.0 release.

Enjoy

Stefan

How can be activated Icons on the desktop in Bodhi 5.0?

the_waiter 06-22-2018 12:21 PM

Easily

Go to menu->settings->modules and look up the files tab. Then load "desktop icons"

I do not have "Desktop icons" on my Module -> Files. :-( (Bodhi 5.0 Beta)

Hmmm, weird

What Moksha version do you have?

It should be v. 3.0

Oh, I solved it by updating three bodhi packages (-background-edj, -lightdm-theme and -plymouth-text, don't know which one was the magic one)

Thank you, now I have some icons on desktop, is so easy! :-D

Some files appear on the desktop with an icon (.csv) and the ones that are pdf appear as a thumbnail (nice!). However, I notice an issue, some other files types (ods, xls, xlsx, odt, doc) show a mere grey icon (even though those files do show a nice icon on pcmanfm)...

the_waiter 06-22-2018 02:15 PM

Yes, you are right. Office files icon are not displayed correctly. I haven't time for looking at it. Sorry :(

This is exciting.
Some long-awaited fixes (like the menus cascading to the other side when there is no more space to the right).
Time to give Bodhi another look.

However, just my 5cents worth, I don't see myself going to Reddit. I've never used it for anything, never found it any better (rather worse) than the traditional places (like here) - so going to Reddit for just one single forum isn't worth it. Here, at least we can come for all our Linux distros.

Who handles your Wiki and online documentation? There is a thread asking about dual-boot.
It would be nice if someone answered this thread on the topic.

Why on gods green earth would we start making responses to topics from half a decade ago?

How do I install something else in Bodhi

I like minimalistic, however Bodhi is so minimalistic that it doesn't work and I have been struggling how to get something else. unetbootin is downloaded, but I have yet to figure out how to run it.

Can someone please tell me how to get Fatdog64 on my computer via this PITA Bodhi?

Respectfully,
JG
