Im currently using fluxbox, blackbox & openbox.

"The Midnight Commander is a directory browser/file manager for Unix-like operating systems."

You might well already have it installed - try typing 'mc' in a terminal window (it will be provided with just about every distribution).

Minimal - but it will do all you need.

Yes it's there :)

I also tryed rox. And I like them both, so now i'm pretty well covered for local browsing :)

Thanks for the suggestions.

Sincerely, Jørgen

Me I prefer emelfm (if possible with the elm patches) as file manager, which is very lightweight. Or just bash with cp, mv, ..

Emelfm can look quite good if you use a nice gtk1 theme.

xfe is good

I use Rox with Fluxbox.

I usually use a terminal for file management now though anyway.

emelfm2 is good but I like tuxcommander better:

pacman -S tuxcmd

rox or gentoo.

...another rox user here. It just works, and it works well. It does take a few days (or even weeks) to get comfortable with the way it works and feels, though.

um...rxvt?

or xterm also works fine for me

you know, even though i suggested rox, i cant part with nautilus because it will show my network connections under the 'computer' tab. If rox could do that, i would not need nautilus any more.
unless, someone knows a way..........

Two others that you may wish to try out:

tuxcmd - Tux Commander. A traditional dual pane "commander" style file manager with nice integrated FTP support, device mounting and many more goodies. Depends only on GTK and hence is very fast.

XNC - X Northern Captain. Very much like a X version of Midnight Commander. Also a very nice FTP capability, and lots of other goodies. Actually slower to load than tuxcmd though, unless you use its preloader. I believe that XNC is dependant only on X itself! It is an oldie, but a goodie.

Both are VERY good though. I used both almost daily, favoring them over xfe and mc at this point.

Of course, my *main* file management is done via Rox, since I use Rox's desktop and as a result, it is just SO convenient.

I use the Gentoo file manager on fluxbox and it works perfectly. I used to use Endeavor for windows-like drag & drop but found it a little buggy.
