MX Linux-Make the screen lock disabled by default
Just a small suggestion.
Why not have the screen lock in MX Linux disabled by default? I left a new installation of MX 21 to finish doing what it had to do and when I returned shortly afterwards, I found it impossible to unlock the screen. I left it for hours and then eventually had to switch it off. Then, of course, I had the broken packages message and “sudo dpkg --configure -a”. It is now taking blooming ages to fix the broken packages! All of this is so unnecessary. There is simply no need for Step 11, Disabling the screen lock on this link: https://linuxx.info/configuring-mx-l...-installation/ if by default the screen lock is OFF. My machine has now gone to a blank screen again thanks to this screen lock!! What an absolute PITA. I will leave it on overnight and see what transpires tomorrow morning. EDIT The laptop has sorted itself out and the system repairs have been done. I am unable to find XFCE Screensaver or the “Lock the screen” tab in Settings or elsewhere (as suggested in Step 11). Putting “screensaver” in the Search box gives nothing. Finally I found what was needed. Settings > Power Manager > Display > Blank after > Change to Never. I should add that I have never had this problem previously with MX Linux over the many years that I have used it. Also, whenever the screen has gone blank during the installation of any other Linux distro, a quick mouse movement has brought up the Unlock screen. Enter the password and all is well. Not with MX 21! I am not impressed by this particular default setting which can cause severe installation problems. Goodness knows what new users think of it. I must add that the rest of MX 21 is absolutely fine. |
The MX Linux support page states that the bug tracker is at bugs.mxlinux.org
You should highlight this there. |
boughtonp,
Thanks for that. It is not so much a bug as poor design, IMO. |
I count bad design as a bug, but in any case the inability to unlock the screen is either a bug itself, or caused by one.

You must have something wrong with your installation because all the MX Linux installations I have, screen lock was always disabled by default.

Crippled,
There was nothing wrong with the installation. The md5 sum was correct. By default, as far as I know, the display power management is activated after either 5 or 10 minutes. I am just going to mark this as Solved and learn from the experience. |
