The 4MLinux 42 series.
 
This thread is for tracking the development of the 4MLinux 41 series.

4MLinux 41.0 Core BETA released.
This is a core system (only about 15 MB in size) for the 4MLinux 42 series. The system includes: the Linux kernel 6.0.9, GNU C Library 2.36, and BusyBox 1.34.1. The 4MLinux 42 series uses GNU Compiler Collection 12.2.0 to compile programs designed for the x86_64 architecture.

Despite its extremely small size, 4MLinux Core supports both BIOS and UEFI boot modes.

4MLinux 42.0 BETA released.
 
4MLinux 42.0 BETA is ready for testing. Basically, at this stage of development, 4MLinux BETA has the same features as 4MLinux STABLE, but it provides a huge number of updated packages.

Road map:
December 2022 -> BETA
March 2023 -> STABLE
July 2023 -> OLD STABLE
November 2023 -> EOL

Antivirus Live CD 42.0-1.0.1 released.
 
Antivirus Live CD is an official 4MLinux fork including the ClamAV scanner. It's designed for users who need a lightweight live CD, which will help them to protect their computers against viruses. The latest version 42.0-1.0.1 is based on 4MLinux 42.0 BETA and ClamAV 1.0.1.

BakAndImgCD 42.0 released.
 
BakAndImgCD is an official 4MLinux fork, which has been designed to perform the following two tasks: data backup and disk imaging. The 4MLinux Backup Scripts make use of FSArchiver, GNU ddrescue, Partclone, rsync, and other utilities. The output files (archives and images) can be optionally compressed and sent to a remote sever (using Ethernet, WiFi, PPP or PPPoE). This release is based on the 4MLinux Backup Scripts 42.0.

TheSSS 42.0 released.
 
This is a major release based on the 4MLinux Server 42.0, meaning that the components of the LAMP server are now: Linux 6.1.10, Apache 2.4.56, MariaDB 10.6.12, and PHP (5.6.40, 7.4.33, and 8.1.17).

You can update your TheSSS by executing the "zk update" command (fully automatic process).

4MLinux 42.0 STABLE released.
 
The status of the 4MLinux 42.0 series has been changed to STABLE. Edit your documents with LibreOffice 7.5.2 and GNOME Office (AbiWord 3.0.5, GIMP 2.10.34, Gnumeric 1.12.55), surf the Internet with Firefox 111.0 and Chromium 106.0.5249.91, send emails via Thunderbird 102.8.0, enjoy your music collection with Audacious 4.3, watch your favorite videos with VLC 3.0.18 and SMPlayer 22.7.0, play games powered by Mesa 22.2.3 and Wine 8.3. You can also setup the 4MLinux LAMP Server (Linux 6.1.10, Apache 2.4.56, MariaDB 10.6.12, PHP 5.6.40, PHP 7.4.33, and PHP 8.1.17.). Perl 5.36.0, Python 2.7.18, Python 3.10.8, and Ruby 3.1.3 are also available.

As always, the new major release has some new features. Krita (raster graphics editor) and Hex-a-Hop (video game) have been added as downloadable extensions. 4MLinux 42.0 comes with improved support for many image, audio and video formats. AlsaPlayer, Baka MPlayer, GNOME MPlayer, GNOME MPV, mp3blaster are now available out of the box. Big work has been done to adopt famous (but quite old) XMMS as a default media player in 4MLinux, which is able to open modern audio and video files (support for MOD and MIDI music is also included). One can also download a rich set of XMMS skins with one click.

Unfortunately, you’re inflating the distribution a lot... ideally it should reach, on a 700 MB CD. Now with the "appimage", the person downloads the LibreOffice and dozens of essential programs!

4MLinux 42 is now OLD STABLE.
 
The status of the 4MLinux 42 series has been changed to OLD STABLE. All users must update before November 2023 (EOL).
